Photo essay on the Birdsville Races covering all aspects of this iconic outback event & the road trip to Birdsville via Quilipie, Windorah and Betoota. The photos, all b & w film, were shot 25 years ago over two trips to the Races in 1989 & 1990.
Featured are the landscapes enroute, the calcutta auction before the races, the characters who come along for the event, Fred Brophy's tent boxing troupe, the horse trainer, the bookies, the punters, the jockeys and the races themselves.
The State Library of Queensland has acquired 43 images from the book for their collection, and the National Library of Australia acquired a copy of the book for theirs.
